This is a fascinating wine that is 100% merlot with plenty of fruit and velvety tannins. Lovely center palate. Mar 2016,
Bought by Smith Haut Lafitte in 2012. Vinified in stainless steel then aged in 15% to 20% new oak. More restraint and elegance than sister estate Cantelys but a touch austere right now. Great potential. 100% Merlot but will add Cabernet Franc once replantings are in play. Apr 2016, Jane Anson,, Drink: 2023-2035
A large-scaled, ample wine, the 2015 Le Thil, 100% Merlot from argillo-calcaire-rich soils in Pessac, offers notable depth and texture. Stone fruit, tobacco, mint and cinnamon are pushed forward in this succulent, juicy red. Silky tannins and a broad, creamy finish add to the wine's considerable near and medium-term appeal. This is a strong showing from proprietors Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who are best known for the wines they make at their flagship property, Smith Haut Lafitte. Apr 2016,
Offers a fresh feel to the plum and blackberry fruit. Shows ample structure but remains rounded in feel. Solid overall, but lacks range. Mar 2016, James Molesworth,
Owned by the Cathiards of Smith Haut Lafitte since 2012. Vineyards just north of Smith Haut Lafitte vines. Clay limestone with no gravel. All Merlot. Very rich and sweet. A little dry on the end. Very sweet. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2019-2026
Tasting note coming soon. Apr 2016,
The 2015 Le Thil, which is pure Merlot picked at the end of September to maintain freshness in the wine, offers an almost "sexy" bouquet of strawberry jam, fresh dates and raspberry preserve. The palate has a slightly chalky texture on the entry. Moderate depth with good tension, it has a touch of hardness towards the granitic finish that will dissipate by the time it is in bottle. For a pure Merlot, it has a broody personality, so perhaps afford it 1-2 years in bottle before broaching. Apr 2016,
