The 2001 Optimus (a blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Syrah, 5% Zinfandel, and 3% Petit Verdot with 15.4% alcohol) is a blockbuster. A dense purple color precedes the sumptuous perfume of blueberries, blackberries, acacia flowers, and licorice. The small percentages of Petit Verdot and Zinfandel along with the huge amount of Syrah give this wine much more up-front, accessible aromatic and flavor profiles. Drink this beautiful red now and over the next 10-12 years. Aug 2004, www.robertparker.com

We delve into the details of what makes Taiwanese ...

2002 Champagne – The Vintage of the Decade?
*"2002 was an outstanding vintage, most likely the best of the decade. The finest 2002s are powerful, firmly structured and truly mineral but neither lack freshness nor finesse." – *The Wine Advocate** Widely renowned as one of the greatest champagne vintages of recent years, 2002 more than stands up to past greats such as the 1996 & 1990. Praised by ...

Rhone 2017: small but excellent
The Rhone Valley is experiencing a real heyday at the moment with a spectacular vintage in 2015 (particularly in the Northern Rhone) followed by a sensational 2016, (particularly for the Southern Rhone appellations). Both vintages produced fantastic ripeness levels due to long, dry, warm (but not over hot) summers. Combine this with distinctly cooler nights, slowing down the ripening whilst ...
