Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. The 1982 Latour-à-Pomerol has been a great wine for many years and this might well be the best that I have ever encountered. It has an exceptional bouquet that here is surprisingly youthful. It comes armed with black fruit, bay leaf, cedar and gravel, almost Left Bank in character. Further investigation yields an intriguing marine-like, seaweed scent that expands upon its engaging personality. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful balance and fine tannin. It has melted a little since my last encounter, softened around the edges and yet there remains that core of intense black fruit and kirsch that will ensure that it continues to age for many years. The Moueix team made several immense wines in 1982 and this is one of them. Tasted December 2015. Oct 2016,, Drink: 2016-2035
This wine has been at its peak of maturity for the last 4-5 years, and appears to be holding nicely in my cellar. The problem is that over half of the wines in my case have been corked! Happily, this was a pure bottle, revealing a dark garnet color with some amber at the edge as well as a big, sweet nose of kirsch liqueur, licorice, Asian spices, incense, and roasted herbs. This round, generous 1982 should be drunk up over the next 3-4 years. Release price: ($140.00/case) Wine Advocate.June, 2009
A solid '82 Pomerol with good richness. Good deep-ruby, garnet color. Black olive, cherry, ripe fruit nose. Medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and a fresh fruit, tobacco and meat finish. Not as great as I remember, but an outstanding bottle all the same.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now. James Suckling,Wine Spectator 1998
