Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, a stately house aggrandised by two fairytale towers, sits on the fringes of the village of Saint-Julien. Tracing its roots back to the 13th century, it has been under the stewardship of Bruno Borie since 2003, a season marked by heatwaves that tested the most experienced producers. Ranked as a Second Growth in the Bordeaux classification of 1855, it lies a rung below the five First Growths which include Château Latour and Château Lafite Rothschild, but it is an estate of the highest order. While its position in the classification remains unchanged, it has changed hands several times since it acquired its ranking but it has been under the ownership of the Borie family since 1941.
