Critic Notes

From the luxury, 12-acre boutique outpost of the Neipperg family, the 2012 La Mondotte (generally 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc) has an inky/purple color, sweet mulberry, black cherry and cassis note, stunning purity and full-bodied texture. The wine’s opulence and voluptuous character compare to its greatest vintages, such as 1998, 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010. Its great terroir (clay and limestone soils) shines through with a stunning effort in the vintage. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Apr 2015, www.robertparker.com

This is very intense with great depth of fruit and length. Full body, with super integrated tannins and a long, long finish. The minerality and citrusy acidity gives the wine wonderful tension and length. James Suckling, jamessuckling.com

Delivers singed vanilla and apple wood notes melding with a core of steeped plum and red currant fruit. A sanguine hint emerges slowly on the finish, while briar and mineral notes add range. The minerality will help this stretch out. WineSpectator.com—J.M.

2018 Bordeaux En Primeur: The Week in Review #6
Following the UK bank holiday on Monday we came back to three compelling releases on Tuesday. Troplong Mondot was released at well below the price of the excellent 2016 vintage, at a very reasonable £459 per 6. The stylistic choices the Chateau made in the 2018 vintage to focus on purity of fruit and freshness produced a stunning wine that ...

How to Spend 24 Hours in Santa Barbara

Whilst less established than Napa Valley or Sonoma further North, this wilder territory has attracted a young generation of winemakers who are not scared to experiment. Just a few decades since the ...
