One of the second wines that knock it out of the park in the vintage, the 2017 Croix Canon offers more medium-bodied aromas and flavors as well as incredible finesse. Cassis, black cherries, lavender, and Provençal herbs, loads of floral characteristics, bright acidity, and fine tannin all emerge from this beautiful Saint-Emilion. It’s a wine to drink while you wait on the Grand Vin.
A tight and focused red with dark-berry, chocolate and blueberry character. Medium-bodied, firm and silky. Lovely depth.
The 2017 Croix Canon comes from light and sandier soils from what was once Château Mazerat. It has a pure black cherry and crushed violet-scented bouquet that is neatly embroidered with the 20% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy, chalky tannin. There is good density here with dark black fruit laced with spice with an open finish that probably belies the surprising backbone of this wine. Assuming this is released at a good price, then this might be one of the best quality to price rations in 2017.
The 2017 Croix Canon is deep garnet-purple in color with a spicy nose of warm black plums, blueberries and mulberries with touches of cloves and sandalwood. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh, velvety and understated in the mouth with a lively finish.
