Racy and long with blueberry, chocolate and walnut character. Medium body, velvety tannins and a medium finish. Apr 17,
Here we are in powerful Pomerol country, delivering a punch that almost knocks you off your feet with tight black coffee on a hugely concentrated palate with big tannins. But this is an estate where the owner (Vignobles Dauriac, who also own Destieux and Monlysse) keeps a lot of wine back for ten years, so the style begins to make more sense. 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2027-2050
The 2016 La Clemence, the Pomerol estate of the Dauriac family, was a little closed and broody on the nose when I tasted it. The palate is sweet and candied with layers of toasty black fruit laced with black pepper and a touch of soy. The length is impressive, although I discerned more complexity on the 2016 Bourgneuf tasted alongside. Still, this is definitely one of the better wines from the estate that in the past was rather too extracted. Apr 17,, Drink: 2019-2030 Apr 2017,, Drink: 2019-2030
Plum, chocolate, spice and leather give the 2016 La Clémence its dark personality and plush feel. This is an especially supple, forward Pomerol. Although not exactly complex, the 2016 is nicely balanced and will drink well with minimal cellaring.
Very rich and gamey. Dry end. Pretty exaggerated. Drying tannins on the end. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2024-2034
