Average Score 91.43

The Cabernet Franc in this really gives it form and muscle with lots of blackberry and fresh herb character. Stylish and impressive. Apr 2016,
The 2015 Château Haut Simard, from the ten-hectare block in front of Canon-la-Gaffelière planted at 12,000 vines per hectare, is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. That represents a higher proportion of the latter because of the sheer quality (for example, the 2014 included around 25%). It has a precocious bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry aromas, almost confit-like, well defined and gaining intensity in the glass. The palate is very smooth and harmonious, the 30% new oak neatly embroidered with an edgy, citrus fresh finish that displays fine tension and depth. This is a great Haut-Simard that will offer up to 20 years of drinking pleasure. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2020-2045
This property is owned and managed by the Vauthier family of Chateau Ausone. The 2015 Haut-Simard is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, aged in French oak barrels, 30% new, for about 12 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it displays pronounced notes of crushed black currants, black cherries and blueberries with touches of Indian spices, menthol and tilled soil. Medium to full-bodied, firm and pleasantly chewy with bags of personality and expression, it offers a good, long earthy finish. Feb 2018,
Alain Vauthier's 2015 Haut-Simard is gracious and light on its feet. The impression is of a nearly weightless, lifted Saint-Émilion built on aromatics, perfume and nuance, due in part to the significant presence (40%) of Cabernet Franc. Sweet floral notes meld into a core of red cherry, plum, mint and tobacco are beautifully delineated throughout. The oak is a bit pronounced today. Otherwise, this is another fine effort from the Vauthier family. Haut-Simard is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc from clay, sand and gravelly soils planted at densities of up to 12,600 vines per hectare. Apr 2016,
Showing some of the Ausone magic, but at a fraction of the price, this is a very tasty St. Emilion, with the Cabernet Franc bringing freshness and perfume to the blend. Subtly oaked and refreshing, it’s hugely drinkable stuff that’s all about pleasure. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2020-2025
Part of the Ausone stable. 40% Cabernet Franc in the blend from eight-year-old old vines planted at 12,000vines/ha. Fine, fragrant nose. Pure and enticing. Lovely blueberry notes on the palate. Really elegant and long on the finish. Best yet from this estate; delicious. Apr 2016, James Lawther MW,, Drink: 2020-2030
Very dark purple. Light and appetising. Racy and fine. An athlete of a wine. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2024-2034
