A firm and silky red with elegance and finesse. Lovely core of fruit, yet this remains fine and reserved. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
The 2016 Haut-Madrac is a blend of 32% Merlot and 68% Cabernet Sauvignon. Philippe Castèja told me that they do a cold fermentation in the juice and then a maceration for three to four weeks, pumping over lightly and infrequently in order not to over-extract hard tannins. It has a nicely focused bouquet with blackberry and cigar box aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine and juicy tannin, good acidity, slightly savory in style with good density towards the finish. There is good body to this Haut-Médoc and it should give 8-10 years of drinking pleasure. Apr 2017, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2021-2033
