Average Score 90.7

This has a pretty currant and blueberry density with lots of orange peel, too. Medium body, a solid core of fruit and ripe tannins. All there. Mar 2017,
Up in one of the best spots in Fronsac, this wine has a lot going for it. Liquorice notes and bright tannins are joined by a good acidity that carries the wine upwards through the palate. This has drama but is well handled, and will give huge amounts of pleasure. 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2022-2035
The 2016 Haut Carles, the Fronsac estate of Constance and Stephane Droulers, has an intense bouquet with multi-layered black cherry and boysenberry fruit, the oak neatly integrated and maintaining respectable detail and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, certainly one of the more concentrated Fronsac 2016s, yet it manages to maintain the tension and energy all the way through to the finish. One to watch. Apr 2017,
The 2016 Haut-Carles is terrific. Plump, juicy and forward, it exudes class. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, espresso and spice notes give the wine its rich, enveloping personality. The 2016 is ripe, racy and voluptuous, all qualities that are best enjoyed over the near and medium term. Apr 2017,
Premium wine of Ch Carles, known only as Haut-Carles. Dark crimson. 5% Malbec and 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Peppery nose. Lots of velvety texture here. A little aggressive on the end. Tannins quite notable. But it's dramatic – just not perhaps classic Fronsac. Slightly hot end. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2023-2033
