Dark greyish crimson. Ripe dark fruit – cassis and raspberry and cherry – and just a touch cedary. A light smoky/Lapsang note. Rich, dense fruit that is just ripe – fresh and intense. Firm, chewy tannins. Big structure. Full bodied and still fragrant on the long finish. Julia Harding MW,
The Haut-Bergey has a fresh blackcurrant and small dark cherry scented bouquet with fine delineation. The oak is well assimilated and it unfurls nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp entry and fine edgy tannins. At its core is a ball of rounded dark plum and cassis whilst the finish has fine delineation and intensity, it not the persistency of the previous two vintages. Tasted April 2012. Neal Martin,
Nicely concentrated cassis with a lifted leafiness, good grippy concentration on the palate but it needs time to lose the greenness. Drink 2016-2024.
The Garcin family has invested heavily in both money and time to resurrect a number of their estates, including Haut-Bergey (as well as Branon, Clos l’Eglise and Barde-Haut). The 2011 Haut-Bergey exhibits notes of charcoal embers, tobacco leaf, black currants, cherries, spice and earth. Made from a high dosage of Merlot combined with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it should age nicely for 10-15 years. Wine Advocate.April, 2014
