Black licorice and blackberry aromas follow through to a medium-to-full body, fine tannins and a silky finish. Best after 2007. 7,555 cases made. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2006.
Wine Spectator Score: 90/100
Tasted at a vertical tasting at the chateau. The 2003 Haut Batailley has a pleasant nose of black fruit and warm gravel, just a hint of licorice in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple, gamey entry. There is an animally aspect to this mature Haut-Batailley which is approachable and charming. It does reflect the vintage more than the terroir but it is still perfectly enjoyable with a lovely savory finish. Drink now and over several years. Tasted July 2016. Jun 2017, www.robertparker.com
Neal Martin Score: 89/100
A pretty, somewhat superficial effort, the 2003 offers aromas of cranberries, sweet cherries, black currants, and spicy new oak. Elegant and medium-bodied, with a shallow finish, it should be consumed over the next decade. Wine Advocate.April, 2006
Robert Parker Score: 87/100
