Critic Notes

No. 5 in Top 10 Great Value 2016 Bordeaux. This is an attractive St Emilion red that has the right balance between intensity, power, detail and freshness. A generous wine with wonderful freshness, lifted flavors and ripe, dense tannins. Apr 2017, www.jeanniecholee.com

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Grand-Pontet features bright, vibrant kirsch, warm redcurrants, blackberries and wild blueberries notions with hints of tobacco, tilled soil and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house, with firm, grainy tannins and a lively line lifting the fruit to a long minerally finish. Nov 2018, www.robertparker.com

Tight and concentrated with very pretty fruit concentration and ripe and polished tannins. Just a raw beauty that will be tempered with time. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com

Tight and a little old-school, this is one of the very few St-Émilions this year where I feel the tannins are tugging me down through the liquorice and black cherry fruit, not leading me upwards. Clear power, but pulls up short on the pleasure. The blend is 75% Merlot, 17.5% Cabernet Franc and 7.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, cropped at a good yield of 50hl/ha. Five Wines With Architectural Grand Designs
Beautiful wines deserve to be made in beautiful surroundings. Here are five of the wine world's greatest architectural gems... Museums, stadiums, opera houses: cutting-edge architecture is often associated with the entertainment sector. Rangen de Thann Grand Cru
Following our masterclass with Olivier Humbrecht MW and tasting through his extraordinary collection, we haven't been able to forget the wines from the Grand Cru vineyard of Rangen de Thann. These are wines that are overwhelmingly dominated by their terroir, with an abundance of mineral tones over and above fruit-forward flavours. Decanter’s Andrew Jefford describes the Rangen vineyard as "the ...

2014: THE F+R PICKS. GRAND-PUY-LACOSTE
It shouldn’t really come as a surprise that GPL is an F+R pick.  This has to be one of Pauillac’s most reliable properties, turning out quite excellent wine year after year.  Moreover, GPL is always fairly priced and nearly always offers exceptional value for money.  Xavier Borie has been making exceptional wines here since 1978, and has retained a real “Pauillac” ...
