Critic Notes

The 2015 Grand Mayne has a ripe small, dark cherry and mulberry scented bouquet, very perfumed with cassis scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very elegant and poised, part of a new style of Grand Mayne that is much more refined than the vintages of the 1990s and 2000s. In a word, what Jean-Antoine Nony and his team have made here is a "stylish" Saint Emilion. Apr 2016, www.eRobertParker.com, Drink: 2020-2045

The 2015 Grand Mayne is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with an earthy nose of damp soil and fungi with a core of red and black plums, black berries and dried herbs. The full-bodied mouth is rich and earthy with a firm structure and plenty of freshness, finishing long. Feb 2018, www.robertparker.com

Rich, ample and concentrated, the 2015 Grand Mayne is a terrific example of Saint-Émilion done in a modern, sumptuous style. Ripe, silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red cherry, raspberry, mocha, espresso and menthol. The 2015 is dense, powerful and voluptuous to the core, with terrific harmony. This is an impressive showing. Michel Rolland and Louis Mitjaville consult. Tasted three times. Apr 2016, www.Vinous.com

Nicely packed together, with juicy raspberry and plum paste flavors buttressed by licorice and ganache. Shows some energy through the finish, but this is more about heft than grace. Mar 2016, James Molesworth, www.WineSpectator.com

A juicy and rich red with roasted coffee, chocolate and ripe fruit. Full body, velvety tannins. A little over extracted now but could come around with proper barrel aging. Mar 2016, www.JamesSuckling.com

Charry, chocolate aromas. Supple and refined on the palate with a depth of generous fruit. Tight, firm finish. Powerful and long with ageing potential. Apr 2016, James Lawther MW, www.Decanter.com, Drink: 2023-2035

Savoury, toasty, fun on the nose with lots of fruit. Big and broad and not the subtlest but with massive sweet fruit. Drying end - very. Apr 2016, www.JancisRobinson.com, Drink: 2024-2032

Rangen de Thann Grand Cru
Following our masterclass with Olivier Humbrecht MW and tasting through his extraordinary collection, we haven't been able to forget the wines from the Grand Cru vineyard of Rangen de Thann. Decanter’s Andrew Jefford describes the Rangen vineyard as "the ...

2014: THE F+R PICKS. GRAND-PUY-LACOSTE
It shouldn’t really come as a surprise that GPL is an F+R pick.  This has to be one of Pauillac’s most reliable properties, turning out quite excellent wine year after year.  Moreover, GPL is always fairly priced and nearly always offers exceptional value for money.  Xavier Borie has been making exceptional wines here since 1978, and has retained a real “Pauillac” ...
