Powerful tannins and ripe fruits are the main characters here. With a solid, foursquare character, it is generous and opulent. Tannins and concentration are all there, resulting in a wine with serious aging potential. Apr 2017, Roger Voss,
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Grand Corbin-Despagne rocks up with exuberant notions of wild blueberries, Black Forest cake and plum preserves with hints of lavender, underbrush and cloves. Full-bodied and with great concentration, the palate delivers bags of perfumed fruit layers, finishing with excellent persistence. Nov 2018,
This is an accomplished, grown up wine from Francois Despagne. Lovely toasted almonds and grilled baguette on the nose. The Cabernets (24% Franc and 1% Sauvignon) give a clear austerity to the structure. It is always a little more restrained than many on the Corbin plateau in its early years. It is closed right now, but the hugely silky texture and a beautiful ripple to the tannins makes this one to age. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2027-2050
Iron, smoke, game, tobacco, black cherry and a host of more soil-driven tones give the 2016 Grand Corbin Despagne its virile, brooding personality. Far from an easygoing Saint-Émilion, the 2016 is a burly, powerful wine that needs time in bottle to be at its best. This is a terrific wine in the making. Apr 2017,
Lovely density and fruitiness to this 2016 with plum and berry character, round tannins and a fresh finish. Mar 2017,
Very polished in feel, with layers of blueberry and raspberry puree gliding along, inlaid with sweet spice, black tea and melted black licorice. Almost too easy, but the fruit is hard resist. Apr 2017, James Molesworth,
The 2016 Grand-Corbin-Despagne was one of the few Saint Emilion Grand Crus that I felt showed a little too much fruit on the nose, felt a little blowsy. The palate is sweet and generous, fleshy and smooth with firm grip, although it does not deliver the complexity and nuance of its peers on the finish. Not a bad Saint Emilion at all, but this is 2016. Let's see if it improves in bottle and matches the fine 2014 and 2015s from this property. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2021-2038
Sweet, dried fruit start. Zesty and with some energy as well as all that ripe fruit. Apr 2017,, Drink:2024-2038
