Average Score 87.0

A very refined red. One of the best Giscours in years. Wonderful aromas of crushed raspberries, blackberries and other fruits. Full-bodied, with very fine tannins and a long, caressing finish. All in finesse. Best after 2001. 20,000 cases made. -James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1998
An easygoing claret with plenty of crowd appeal, this dark ruby-colored 1995 exhibits roasted herb, meaty, black currant, and cherry fruit scents. Underbrush and herbaceousness are intertwined with ripe fruit on the palate of this medium-bodied, spicy, pleasant, soft wine with some tannin in the finish. It will be ready for prime time drinking after another 1-3 years of bottle age. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2010. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 115.
Tasted at the Chateau Giscours vertical, the 1995 Chateau Giscours is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 60% Merlot picked between September 25 and October 7. It has a light, herbaceous nose with sage and rosemary scents, though without the retinue of fruit to back it up. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, simple and conservative with a Merlot-dominated finish that feels sapped of energy. The fundamental problem for this and Giscours born this decade is the over-emphasis on Merlot, something that has been rectified in recent vintages. I would consume bottles in the new future. Tasted June 2015. Jul 2016, www.robertparker.com
