Average Score 91.0

Ripe red raspberry, cherry, green tea, and smoked meats in the impressive nose of Serafin's 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers put me very much in mind of its 2005 counterpart. On the palate, though, this loosens up more than the other wines in its collection, and its brown spiced sweet fruits are mingled with a very saline, alkaline, smoky expression of mineral and carnal matter. Serafin indicates he would have wished for a bit more ripeness here, but while there is an impressively generous richness, I detect an almost exotic, shriveled berry tone (for now, a source of fascination), as well as (more worrisomely) a faint hint of heat and drying in the back which I wonder whether is going to affect the wine long-term. I would plan to revisit this in 2010 or 2011 to assess its longer-term potential. Dec 2009, www.robertparker.com
