The 2001 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques is one of few vintages that I have never tasted. But what a delight. The aromatics are instantaneous. There is no dilly-dallying here, just straight-up pure and gorgeous, prime-cut Pinot Noir with blackberries and raspberries, just a faint tang of soy with age, all beautifully defined and with impressive intensity after 14 years. The palate follows in suitable style, the acidity perfectly in tune with the sorbet-fresh red fruit, wonderful tension and a linear, shimmering finish. There is not the enormous depth of a top vintage, but simply a fine Clos Saint Jacques from a talented winemaker at the peak of its powers. eRobertParker.com.August, 2015
