I have been consistently impressed with the efforts and investment happening at this property since the Mommeja brothers took over (with Renaud very much taking the lead). This is tightly drawn and austere right now but the elements are all in place, showing good dark fruits, fresh acidity running through the palate, and rich, well integrated tannins. Good potential. Planted to 53% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon with the rest Cabernet Franc. Apr 2017, www.decanter.com, Drink: 2025-2038
Tight and chewy with a medium body, medium tannins and a savory finish. A little lean now but this should fill out in the barrel. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
Slightly weak rim on deep crimson. Interesting nose with a real undertow of sophistication (top-quality oak?). Then it's a tad severe on the palate and drying on the end. Lots of effort… Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2024-2036
The 2016 Fourcas-Hosten is a blend of 55% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc. It has a crisp cedar and tobacco-scented bouquet with blackberry and fresh fig emerging in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh acidity, supple in the mouth with good weight, but just missing a little complexity on the finish. Apr 2017, www.robertparker.com
