Critic Notes

Very pretty balance to this with a juicy fruit character, bright acidity and a long and flavorful finish. Savory and juicy. Apr 17, www.jamessuckling.com

Score: 92-93/100James Suckling

Sleek in feel, with racy acidity pulling the raspberry and plum fruit along from the get-go. The chalky minerality is well-embedded on the finish. Solid. Apr 2017, James Molesworth, www.winespectator.com

Score: 90-93/100Wine Spectator

Michel and Dany Rolland's 2016 Fontenil is quite pretty. Bright, crystalline and precise, it offers a compelling interplay of pliant, red-toned fruit and savory notes, all with an extra kick of acid-driven freshness. In 2016, Fontenil is bit more savory and less overtly fruit-driven than in some previous years. Tasted three times. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com

Score: 90-92/100Antonio Galloni

The 2016 Fontenil has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry and subtle undergrowth aromas that change towards more marine-like, estuarine scents. There is certainly good complexity here. The palate is nicely poised with plenty of dusky black fruit. There is actually a very slight green edge...not under-ripe, perhaps more a leafiness that actually complements this Fronsac and lends freshness. I think this will turn out very fine once in bottle. The 2016 Fontenil is medium to deep garnet-purple colored and gives up exuberant red cherries, black raspberries, wild blueberries and cinnamon stick scents with hints of wild sage and forest floor. Medium-bodied, refreshing and wonderfully elegant, it has beautiful vibrancy and a perfumed finish. Nov 2018, www.robertparker.com

Score: 91-/100Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Meaty and refreshing and lively. Thick and sweet. Just a little acid and tannic on the end. Not quite refreshing enough for a higher score but pretty impressive nonetheless. Jagged texture. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2022-2028

Well placed, ripe red fruits and careful extraction provide lots of fruit-forward pleasure. It just lacks a little vibrancy through the mid-palate. Apr 2017, www.decanter.com, Drink: 2021-2035
