This is very dense and super silky, ripe tannins. Full and beautiful. Lots of wet earth, asphalt and blueberry character. One of best ever. Pure Merlot. Mar 2016,
Michel Rolland's property and one of his best yet. Spice and dark fruit notes and a sumptuous texture. Tannins are plentiful but really fine. Freshness and length on the finish. Harmonious. Apr 2016, James Lawther MW,, Drink: 2021-2030
Plush and ripe and full of very promising black plum fruit. Excellent flavour concentration and juicy. Smooth tannin, fairly light body. Attractive spice on the finish. (RH) Apr 2016,, Drink: 2017-2024
This is a well-focused wine in the making, with streamlined red currant and bitter plum fruit laid out nicely over a chalky spine, giving way to a singed tobacco note on the finish. Mar 2016, James Molesworth,
The 2015 Fontenil is deep garnet-purple in color with crushed red and black currants, black cherries and mulberries notions with an earthy undercurrent of underbrush and truffles plus a waft of tilled soil. The medium to full-bodied palate has bags of purity and minerality with a firm frame of chewy tannins and lively acid line lifting the youthful fruit to a long finish. This should age beautifully! Feb 2018,
A real powerhouse, the 2015 Fontenil exudes power, richness and intensity. Dark blue and purplish hued fruits, violets, lavender, mint and sweet spices are fused together in a deep, beautifully resonant wine endowed with class and personality. This is a superb vintage for the Fontenil. Apr 2016,
The 2015 Fontenil has a high-toned bouquet, showing some reduction that needed rigorous swirling of the glass to shake off, plenty of kirsch and cassis notes lying underneath. The palate is sweet and chewy in the entry, fat in the mouth with plenty of sucrosity, though I find the finish missing the finesse and detail of some of its peers. Difficult to work this Fronsac out at the moment, but hopefully it will come good by the time in bottle. Apr 2016,
