Pure and direct, with a rock-solid beam of cassis, blackberry and sweet spice backed by nice tarry grip on the finish. A very solid second wine. —J.M. James Molesworth, winespectator.com
Wine Spectator Score: 89-92/100
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and 9% Petit Verdot, this has a very fine nose of blackberry, briary and a touch of black tea. Good definition and purity. The Petit Verdot add a little edginess to this wine that has fine tension if lacking a little length on the saturated, slightly chewy finish. Very good purity and precision though. Tasted March 2011. Attractively cassis nose and has charm, elegance and depth, as usual a good second wine from Lagrange. Drink 2013-18. (16 points) Steven Spurrier, decanter.com
Decanter Score: 16/20
Mid crimson. Intense and utterly correct. Quite subtle and very sweet. Easy for early drinking. Well made and very well balanced. Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com

Pomerol: Small but Beautiful
Bordeaux: the foundation of any cellar. The greatest, and most famous wine producing region in the world. The heart of fine wine production. These are all arguable. And, conveniently, there is rather a lot of it. The average left bank chateau will have an annual production of up to 20,000 cases per year, and barrel cellars the size of football ...

2014: THE F+R PICKS. DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU
Along with Leoville Lascases, Ducru-Beaucaillou is arguably the best wine of St Julien, producing wines that can often match the first growths in terms of quality, and doing so with some panache. Bruno Borie has performed wonders here since 2003. The vineyard area has been roughly halved – only the best plots, those that surround the chateau, are used for ...
