Average Score 90.58

A bright and persuasive young red with lots of blackberry and walnut character and crushed stone too. Full body, tight and powerful. Beautiful finish. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
The 2016 de Ferrand possesses notable density, power and breath. Wild cherry, smoke, tobacco and incense overtones give the wine its aromatic dimension, but there is no shortage of depth or palate intensity here. Espresso, mocha, rose petal and raspberry jam build into the textured, inviting finish. In 2016 de Ferrand is bold, juicy and full of personality. Tasted two times. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com
Super-fresh in feel, with a light menthol thread pushing the vibrant blueberry and blackberry notes along, while a firm chalky underpinning holds sway on the finish, giving this really nice cut. Apr 2017, James Molesworth, www.winespectator.com
Very dark purple. Sweet soupy nose. Then a bit of life and steeliness on the palate. Very dry finish but there is energy here. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2025-2040
This is an elegant style with plenty of rich fruit but is actually fairly restrained. Fresh side of the vintage, not huge complexity but well placed fruit and medium oak impact. Akin to the 2001 in style. Medium term drinking with no hard edges. 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. 3.5pH and a yield of 50 hl/ha. Hubert de Bouard has been consultant since 2012. Apr 2017, www.decanter.com, Drink: 2024-2040
The 2016 Chateau Ferrand has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, raspberry coulis and a touch of truffle; not powerful but it has decent focus. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp opening, well judged acidity and plenty of "cool" black fruit. The oak just impinges a little towards the finish, but if that can be addressed during the élevage, then it could turn into an attractive Pomerol for drinking over the next 8-10 years.
