The Echezeaux 2014 from Bouchard Pere et Fils is an focused and slightly understated wine. The nose offer cool red fruit brought forward by a nice filigree minerality and a lovely collection of Vosne spices. On the palate precise and detailed with a fine core of fruit on the midpalate .. its long and quite intense . but not a big and weighty Echezeaux. This is refined and focused effort .. need time to unfold. May 2016,, Drink: 2026+
(Bouchard owns 0. 45 hectare in En Orveaux, whose white, south-facing soil suffers from drought in hot years like 2003, 2005 and 2009; no new oak): Saturated deep red. Expressive aromas of plum, redcurrant and smoky oak, accented by mint, menthol and spices. Plush and silky in the mouth, even voluptuous, with an almost chocolatey sweetness leavened by saline, spicy minerality. Conveys an impression of big volume without excessive weight. The tannins are serious but dusty and fine-grained. Jan 2016,
A background application of wood does not interfere with the clear expression of the well-layered mix of various dark berry and plum scents that display top notes of spice and floral hints. There is good volume to the suave and seductive yet entirely serious middle weight plus flavors that quickly firm up before terminating in a wonderfully lingering finish. This is also blessed with plenty of dry extract that, like the Suchots, should allow it to drink well early if that's your preference. Apr 2016,, Drink: 2024+
