This is very dense and powerful with robust structure and intensity. Lots of minerals and blackberries. Full and chewy yet polished. Very impressive. Fun that there’s some malbec in this. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
Composed of 50% Merlot, 25% Malbec and 25% Cabernet Franc, the deep purple-black colored 2016 Les Portes de l'Am has quite a lot of cedar with black and red cherries, black raspberries and pencil shavings with a waft of roses. Full-bodied and concentrated yet finely crafted, it possesses wonderful freshness and a compellingly soft texture leading to a red berry lift on the finish. Just over 150 cases were made. Nov 2018, www.robertparker.com
The 2016 Les Portes de l'Am… is a total knockout. Super-ripe, rich and unctuous, it possesses tons of richness and intensity. Red plum, chocolate, espresso, licorice, spice and new leather all flesh out in the glass. Sumptuous and flamboyant to the core, but with the superb balance that is typical of the year, the 2016 captures the Domaine du Bouscat style at its very best. This is an exciting wine in every way. The 2016 is 50% Merlot and 25% each Malbec and Cabernet Franc, fermented and then aged entirely in new 600-liter barrels. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com
The 2016 Les Portes de l'Am is a blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Malbec and 25% Cabernet Franc cropped at just 14.2 hectoliters per hectare matured in demi-muids with minimal SO2. Deep in color, it has a rich and opulent bouquet with pure blueberry and black cherry, the 15.2% alcohol imparting a little volatile acidity at the moment. The palate is rich and chewy on the entry, a "big" wine for the vintage with moderate acidity, though it is eschewing the typicity of the vintage for something that goes for concentration rather than finesse.
