Critic Notes

This has good energy for the vintage, with a range of tangerine, clementine, peach and pineapple flavors showing nice definition through the finish. Apr 2017, James Molesworth, www.winespectator.com

Based in Barsac, and has that wonderful spicy tight minerality of a Barsac. A really late harvest this year, right through til the end of October. This has such a beautiful balm yet again for me lacks some pep. It's not a 2007 or 2001 or 2011. But it's gorgeous. The texture of these wines is so crazily seductive and the power and intensity of toasted blood orange slices is stunning, but it would benefit from a lime soaked twist. The 2016 Doisy-Védrines is precise, understated and gracious. Candied orange peel, crème brulee, wild flowers, passion fruit and tangerine are all delineated nicely. The 2016 is deep and resonant on the palate, yet it also retains quite a bit of brightness. Readers who prefer the more understated side of Sauternes will find much to admire. RS 141 g/l, TA 4.1 g/l. Blossomy nose. Open and broad with lots of charm even if not that much subtlety. Medium weight. Easy to like. Straightforward. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2021-2034

Château Gilette: The World’s Most Unique Sauternes
Château Gilette is a sweet wine unlike any other in Sauternes, due to its unique ageing process in which the élevage process takes 20 years, prior to the wine being released onto the market. This remarkable process initially came about during the Second World War. At this time it was impossible to sell any fine wine and owner René Médeville ...

Denis Dubourdieu: Decanter Man of the Year 2016
We profile Decanter Man of the Year 2016 and Bordeaux legend Denis Dubourdieu… The first half of 2016 has been a tumultuous one for Denis Dubourdieu, bidding farewell to Paul Pontallier – friend and godfather to his son Jean-Jacques – as well as stoically battling with illness himself. However, it has also seen recognition of the professor from Barsac’s substantial ...

A visit from Domaines Barons de Rothschild
This week we were honoured to host our long standing partner Domaines Barons de Rothschild's commercial director Jean-Sebastien Philippe for a very special tasting.... It is not every day that one has the opportunity to taste a line up of wines from all of DBR's Bordeaux properties; in fact even individual tastings rarely take place outside of Bordeaux, so we ...
