2012 Destieux

The Dauriac family tends to produce a chunky, masculine-styled wine, but the 2012 Destieux possesses more finesse and elegance than usual. This 20-acre property is planted with 66% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon. The latter varietal may explain why this wine often has a lot of tannin. The dense-colored 2012 reveals plenty of tannin along with a beefy, muscular mouthfeel, medium body and excellent depth. This somewhat rugged, unformed 2012 has a lot going on, and I believe it will get better with additional barrel aging. Apr 2013, www.robertparker.com
