No. 1 in Top 10 Great Value 2016 Bordeaux. The nose is incredibly seductive, powerful, floral and glorious! The palate is silky, refined and there is focused precision in the flavors. Filled with layers of detailed, precise red berry flavors, spices and roses, this is a truly seductive wine. Bravo to the Desmirail team for making such a gorgeous Margaux! A chewy and rich red with plenty of currant and black-cherry character. Tannic. Should come together nicely with some barrel aging. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
Denis Lurton is in charge at this 37ha Margaux estate, and he has produced a classy, cedar-scented 2016 that has a beautiful vibrancy to it. It is a fairly dramatic take on the year, with full extraction of damson fruit and chewy tannins. Apr 2017, www.decanter.com, Drink: 2027-2040
The 2016 Desmirail is a bold, powerful wine. The darker side of the appellation comes through in the wine's dark flavor profile and imposing structural profile. Black cherry, smoke, tobacco and licorice run through the 2016. Potent and virile, the 2016 is likely to need a few years to come into its own. Even so, it is impressive today. A solid, dark, grippy style, with a warm coffee note out front, followed by plum and cassis fruit. Shows lots of velvety, layered structure on the finish. This looks to be a crowd-pleaser. Apr 2017, James Molesworth, www.winespectator.com
Dark crimson with a slightly weak rim. Very sweet, almost chocolatey oak (like the old Tertre nose). Really nice texture and pace on the palate though. Provided you don't have anything against that aroma, you could take a lot of pleasure from this wine. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2025-2043
The 2016 Desmirail is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. It does not possess the most complex Margaux nose, although the purity deserves a commendation with blueberry and cassis fruit. The palate has quite a rich and showy opening though fortunately it does not go over the top. There is a slight metallic edge towards the finish, which I hope will disappear by the time of bottling. It just feels a little pinched at the moment, so there is room for improvement here. Apr 2017, www.robertparker.com
