Critic Notes

A beautiful red with a dense center palate of fruit. Blueberries, minerals and blackberries. Wet earth, too. Full body and velvety tannins. Rocking it again. Apr 17, www.jamessuckling.com

Score: 94-95/100James Suckling

The 2016 Le Defi Fontenil has an intriguing bouquet with bell pepper-tinged black fruit, well defined and almost eschewing the richness of the vintage for something really quite cerebral. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin on the entry, a very classically styled Le Defi Fontenil that shows more tertiary notes, more mineralité than the 2015 last year. I will be fascinated to try this once in bottle because there is a lot going on here. Apr 2017, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2022-2040

The 2016 Le Défi de Fontenil, a selection of the estate's best Merlot fermented in barrel, is a dark, voluptuous beauty. Blackberry jam, crème de cassis, violet, licorice and lavender infuse this creamy, flamboyant Fronsac from Michel and Dany Rolland. Absolutely delicious. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com

Five Wines With Architectural Grand Designs
Beautiful wines deserve to be made in beautiful surroundings. Here are five of the wine world's greatest architectural gems... Museums, stadiums, opera houses: cutting-edge architecture is often associated with the entertainment sector.
