Very dense and savory with chewy tannins and a blackberry and blueberry character. Extremely minerally Full and rich. This is very old vines as much as 100 years old. It is fermented in barrel. A super selection of Merlot. Apr 2016,
Dany Rolland's Le Défi de Fontenil (100% Merlot) emerges from 60 to 100 year-old vines and is fermented entirely in barrel. A magnificent, beautifully textured wine, the 2015 Le Défi de Fontenil captures the essence of Dany Rolland's style. The 2015 is rich, sumptuous and creamy from start to finish, with layers of opulent fruit that continue to blossom as the wine sits in the glass. The new oak is completely integrated. What else can I say? This is a superb showing. Apr 2016,
The 2015 Le Defi Fontenil is actually showing better than the 2015 Fontenil at the moment: more clarity and details, some attractive red cherries and blueberry fruit to enjoy, pencil lead aromas developing with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin, plenty of ripe black tarry fruit, but with the acidity to rein any excessive exuberance in. It should drink well for a decade after bottling.
