Average Score 88.5

A juicy and fruity wine. Medium to full body and chewy tannins. Structured. Better than the 2015. Apr 17,
The 2016 de Malleret is wonderfully savory, nuanced and deep, with lovely complexity throughout. Sweet tobacco, grilled herbs, leather, sage and licorice wrap around a core of dark fruit in this plush, super-inviting Haut-Médoc. Deep and textured on the palate, with lovely nuance, the 2016 is a winner. The blend is 56% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. New oak is 30 percent. Simon Blanchard and Hannah Fiegenschuh consult. Tasted two times. Apr 2017,
Heavy aromatics on the nose, a little too much oak, with big tannins evident on the attack. However this opens up very attractively through the mid-palate as the cassis fruits punch their way through. A touch clunky, but this should smooth out over time. A consistent Cru Bourgeois from the family Oberkampf with director Paul Bordes and consultant Stephane Derenoncourt. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2023-2040
The 2016 De Malleret has quite a high-toned and gregarious bouquet that just seemed a little out of step with the classicism of the vintage. The palate is grippy and ripe on the entry, but for me this seems a little over-extracted and the wood tannins seem to jut out on the finish. This could have been better. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2020-2028
