The 2017 Daugay, owned by Jean-Bernard Grenié and Hélène de Boüard-Grenié of Château Angélus, has a perfumed bouquet of incense and iris, although it dovetails into a more stony/earthy aroma spectrum with aeration. The palate is smooth on the entry with plush black fruit, just the right amount of fine acidity to lend tension towards the black pepper infused finish. This is a fine Saint-Émilion that should age well over the next decade.
A layered and easy 2017 with chocolate, berry and light spice character. Medium body and a fresh finish.
Deep crimson. Dusty, mineral, inviting. Dark-red fruit. A little too dusty on the palate, so that it tastes flatter than the Clos de Boüard (tasted just before) on the finish. (JH)
