The 2016 Dame de Coeur from Château Peyfaures offers attractive brambly black fruit tinged with undergrowth scents on the nose: this is clean and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with thickset grippy tannin. There is plenty of tarry black fruit, though it feels a little too muscular towards the finish. At the moment, the nose has more class than the palate, but let's see if this calms down during barrel maturation, because it has potential. The 2016 Dame de Cœur du Château Peyfaures is a bit richer, riper and deeper than the straight Peyfaures, but I don't find it meaningfully more complex. If anything, the tannins clamp down on the fruit here and give the wine a slightly astringent feel. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com
