The 2016 Croix Cardinale, a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, felt exotic on the nose, touch of meat juices percolating through the ripe black fruit. The palate is ripe and sweet on the entry, but underneath there are fine tannin and that Cabernet Franc component lends a lovely bell pepper touch, notwithstanding impressive structure and length. One to look out for. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2023-2040
This is dark and winey, with primal cassis, blackberry and raspberry fruit flavors forming the majority right now, though there are very enticing licorice snap, black tea and singed alder accents emerging through the finish. Apr 2017, James Molesworth,
Lots of crushed-stone, chalk and blackberry character. Medium body and a solid core of fruit. Focused and interesting. We will see but I like it. Mar 2017,
The 2016 Croix Cardinale is plump, juicy and absolutely delicious. Super-ripe red/ black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, leather and espresso build effortlessly in the glass as this sumptuous, racy Saint-Émilion shows off its flamboyant personality. Readers should expect a concentrated style built on richness and texture. There is certainly no shortage of character. Jean-Philippe Fort is the consultant. Tasted two times. Apr 2017,
