Critic Notes

The 2015 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru, from 75-year-old vines, exhibited broody dark berry, tertiary, even tobacco notes on the nose, though it seemed to gradually open up and reveal more red fruit character in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a fine line of acidity and very good depth. Maybe more mineralite could have been shown towards the finish, nevertheless this remains a suave Corton Clos du Roi that has the density to repay several years in bottle. I expect it will reside at the top of my banded score. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com

A discreet application of wood easily allows the fresh, earthy, herbal tea and sauvage-scented nose of red and dark pinot fruit to shine. As one would expect the big-bodied flavors possess plenty of size, weight and punch along with solid power and mid-palate concentration that adds to the appeal of the beautifully long and mouth coating finish. This is not particularly complex at present but there is so much development potential in evidence that much more should appear with time in bottle and my rating assumes that it will. A visit from Domaines Barons de Rothschild
This week we were honoured to host our long standing partner Domaines Barons de Rothschild's commercial director Jean-Sebastien Philippe for a very special tasting.... It is not every day that one has the opportunity to taste a line up of wines from all of DBR's Bordeaux properties; in fact even individual tastings rarely take place outside of Bordeaux, so we ...

Behind the Bottle - Vire Clesse by Domaine de la Bongran
This is no ordinary Chardonnay from the Maconnias, the Domaine de la Bongran Vire Clesse has its own particular style thanks to some rather unique terroir and an uncompromising approach to its winemaking. The vines are organically-farmed on a 15 hectare estate planted on white marl in the hamlet of Quintaine, just north of Clessé. Jean Thevenet and his son Gautier ...

The Annual Clos Vougeot Tasting : Presenting 2009
On Thursday 27th October wine journalists and the FINE+RARE team gathered for a very special event: 57 domains, one vineyard, one vintage, tasted blind. This is the second year (we hope of many) that we have organised this Clos Vougeot tasting, and quite some organisation is required. We started contacting producers back in February to try and secure a bottle ...

Clos Vougeot 2013
Thursday 28th October saw our annual  Clos Vougeot tastings. Wine journalists gathered at Lower Thames Street to take part in one of the highlights of our calendar: 33 wines from 32 domains, one vineyard and one vintage, all tasted blind. We are rather proud of our Clos Vougeot tasting at FINE+RARE. While blind tastings are hardly uncommon, the chance to ...
