One of the wines of the vintage is certainly the 2015 Cornas Pur Noir. In a similar style to the Vin Noir, yet with a touch more plushness and texture, this killer wine offers layers of black raspberries, blueberries, crushed rocks, crushed violets and licorice in its profound, pure and incredibly concentrated, yet seamless personality.

An estate that has come on like gangbusters over the past decade is Stephane Robert’s Domaine du Tunnel, and today they’re up there with the crème de la crème of the appellation. He's made beautiful wines in both 2014 and 2015. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com

The 2015 Cornas Pur Noir rivals Clape’s Cornas for wine of the vintage from that appellation. Extraordinarily rich and complex, it offers hints of grilled red plums, roasted meat and mocha, enormous concentration and masses of ripe tannins. Yet despite the power, there’s a sense of elegance to this, and the dark fruit flavors come through on the lengthy finish. It’s a terrific effort and relatively affordable if you can find it. The price at the caveau when I visited was 80 euros. Dec 2017, www.robertparker.com

A Trip to Armagnac Part 2: Baron de Lustrac & Domaine Notre Dame de Bouit
Armagnac Baron de Lustrac Despite Mother Nature providing virtually everything necessary for producing a singular and remarkable spirit, market forces seem intent on keeping Armagnac off the centre stage: a spot it rightly deserves! A sheltered existence geographically coupled with a lack of business savvy has, for many centuries, meant it never quite achieved the same global acclaim that ...

A visit from Domaines Barons de Rothschild
This week we were honoured to host our long standing partner Domaines Barons de Rothschild's commercial director Jean-Sebastien Philippe for a very special tasting.... It is not every day that one has the opportunity to taste a line up of wines from all of DBR's Bordeaux properties; in fact even individual tastings rarely take place outside of Bordeaux, so we ...

F+R Visits Domaine Leroy
Visiting Domaine Leroy is a highlight on any fine wine calendar and this year seemed ever more fortunate, finding the 2017s as composed as they will ever be, finishing up their last week of élevage in barrel before bottling planned for next week. On top of that Gilles points out that the 2017s have been the most consistently expressive vintage ...

Domaine Tortochot Producer Portrait
The Burgundy buzz has reached fever pitch this weekend with all of the leading critics publishing their thoughts and scores on the vintage, followed by the majority of Burgundy’s top producers showcasing the vintage in both London and Hong Kong. Amongst all the chatter we spoke to winemaker and proprietor Chantal Tortochot whose wines in 2018 offer fantastic value for the quality. ...

A Trip to Armagnac Part I: Domaine Boingneres
Domaine Boingneres enjoys more commercial success than many other properties in Armagnac and indeed, Madame Lafitte’s expressions of Folle Blanch and the elusive Baco may be found in many a Michelin star restaurant and fancy hotel. With an established following of world class sommeliers such as Gerrard Basset (World best Sommelier 2010) and Enrico Bernardo (World best Sommelier 2004), this ...
