This is very linear and direct with blueberry, chocolate and blackberry character. Medium-to full-bodied, firm and silky. Lovely length. Mar 2017,
The 2016 Clos des Baies emerges from a parcel in Saint Émilion's Saint Laurent des Combes district. Dark, sensual and inviting, the 2016 exhibits loads of dark fruit, spice and leather notes. A wine of density and power, the 2016 is going to need time to unwind, but it is super-expressive today. This is a terrific showing from proprietor Philippe Baillarguet, who is also the cellar master at Ausone. Apr 2017,
The 2016 Clos des Baies, from Ausone cellar master Philippe Baillarguet, is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It has a tightly wound bouquet with black cherries, crème de cassis and a touch of licorice. The palate is nicely structured but maybe a little too extracted towards the finish as it just loses some of the detail that I was expecting to see. Not bad, but it's a bit uncouth at the moment.
