Bright and powerful with blueberry and dark chocolate. Undertones of stones. Full-bodied, lively and intense. Serious. Apr 17, www.jamessuckling.com

Score: 93-94/100James Suckling

Lively, with blueberry and raspberry fruit on a juicy frame, backed by a light graphite edge. Tasty. Apr 2017, James Molesworth, www.winespectator.com

Score: 89-92/100Wine Spectator

Clarisse's 2016 Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, 100% Merlot from vines more than 65 years old, is darker and richer than the straight bottling, but not necessarily better or more complex. Even so, the Vieilles Vignes is plenty delicious. Black cherry, plum, menthol, lavender, licorice and clove notes abound. The 2016 was whole-berry-fermented and saw 30 days on the skins. New oak will be around 33 percent. Stéphane Derenoncourt, Romain Bocchio and Pauline Lagarde consult. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com
