A tight red with currant and plum character, a medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Another solid red from here. Mar 17, www.jamessuckling.com
Thick and fully ripe with a bit of freshness on the end. Real drive and balance. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2023-2032
The 2016 Cissac has an attractive, quite lively and vivacious bouquet with well defined blackberry and blueberry fruit, commendable mineralité and tension developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, crisp acidity, good grip in the mouth with a focused and quite long finish. This is an excellent contribution to the vintage from Château Cissac and it should be (fingers crossed) good value. Owned by the Vialard family, this has classic Médoc austerity and good fruit extraction, showing tight cassis and blackberry leaf flavours, a fresh acidity and firm tannins. A rustic frame holds it back a little, but this is an enjoyable classic, good value Haut-Médoc. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot grown on sandy-gravel soils.
