The 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape has the classic nose of soy, resin, and black cherry in a medium to full-bodied, elegant but pure, supple style that is already revealing considerable complexity and evolution. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. This superb estate never misses a beat with its wines, which are all reasonably drinkable at a young age, normally exhibit terrific Provencal typicity, and have uncommon aging potential. I still have some soft years like 1983 and 1985 in my cellar that are holding up beautifully. Robert Parker. Wine Advocate # 169

The 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape traditional cuvee is a blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and the balance a mix of other permitted varieties. Aged in a combination of concrete tanks, foudre and demi-muids, it is a classic, textbook effort that exudes garrigue, saddle leather, earth, underbrush and copious sweet red and black fruits. Medium-bodied, elegant and mature, it should be consumed over the coming handful of years. ||The first vintage where winemaker Nicolas Boiron was completely in charge, 2004 is a solid year for this estate and the wines show classic profiles across the board. In addition, this was the first vintage where they started to implement partial destemming. Wine Advocate.February, 2014

The King of the Southern Rhone
“For nearly 20 years I have been advocating the best wines of this appellation as something of an insider’s secret – decadent, hedonistic, complex and full wines that are frightfully under-priced and underestimated.”

The Rhone Report
The Northern and Southern Rhone are joined by the synonymous river, a spot of Syrah in Chateauneuf du Pape blends and, to be honest, little else.
