The 2013 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St Jean has a very harmonious bouquet with scents of apricot blossom and white peach: conservative but delineated. This is very feminine, very pretty. The palate is currently showing the new wood a little more than the others 2013s from Niellon, although there is sufficient fruit to absorb that with one or two years in bottle. I will give this the benefit of the doubt. Dec 2014, www.robertparker.com

The Drouhin-Laguiche relationship has borne beautiful fruit since the fortuitous meeting of Maurice Drouhin and the Marquis de Laguiche during the Second World War; when they met, became friends and decided to combine the Marquis’ ownership of a prime piece of the already celebrated Montrachet Grand Cru and Maurice’s skills as a négociant. Maurice bought two barrels in 1943 and ...

Behind the Bottle - Vire Clesse by Domaine de la Bongran
This is no ordinary Chardonnay from the Maconnias, the Domaine de la Bongran Vire Clesse has its own particular style thanks to some rather unique terroir and an uncompromising approach to its winemaking. The vines are organically-farmed on a 15 hectare estate planted on white marl in the hamlet of Quintaine, just north of Clessé. Jean Thevenet and his son Gautier ...

Jean-Marie Fourrier: Embracing The Future, Preserving The Past
A real highlight on our trip to Burgundy this Autumn was a visit to a producer whom I have admired and collected for many years - Jean-Marie Fourrier. The first time I remember being bewitched by his wines was during the 2011 En Primeur tastings. In such an inconsistent vintage where many wines tasted green and astringent, his range of ...
