Critic Notes

The 2013 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Baudes has tightly wound black fruit on the nose, cold stone scents underneath that are neatly defined. The palate is tense on the entry with fine edgy tannins. There is plenty of citrus fruit here, quite racy acidity and a grippy, structured finish. Fine, even if it is a little "standoffish." Jan 2015, www.robertparker.com

Chambolle Musigny Combe d'Orveaux: Taupenot-Merme: A Rose by any other name...

The 2007 Red Burgundies
A couple of times a year, a group of a dozen or so of very knowledgeable and very experienced tasters get together to open, taste and share some Burgundy.  Serious Burgundy.  It’s an opportunity to discuss a vintage or two with like-minded connoisseurs and, of course, to enjoy food, wine and generally wine-related discourse.  It is a group that I ...

Domaine Gérard Raphet - Producer Portrait
Gérard Raphet - the quiet man of Morey-Saint-Denis - lets his wines do the talking. With some exceptional terroir to play with and some very old vines, his wines exude "terroir". His impressive holdings (totally 12 hectares) include five cuvees coming from four of the best Cote de Nuits Grands Crus – Chambertin Clos de Beze, Charmes Chambertin, Clos de la ...

1929 and all that.....
In November Bud Cuchet and I were invited to a rather special dinner at a rather special place.  The venue: the fantastic offices of Remoissenet.  The host: Bernard Repolt, one of Burgundy’s most generous hosts and a man who has forgotten more about Burgundy than most of us will ever hope to know.  The theme: 1929 Le Musigny. Remoissenet is ...
