The top five Pomerols from J.P Mouiex (Certan d May, Providence, Hosanna, La Fleur Petrus and Trotanoy) are absolutely terrific in 2011. Certan de May has a brilliant Richebourg-esque nose of rich liqueur fruit and spice. This continues on the wonderful, silky palate which has big but ripe tannins. Just lovely.
Deep ruby in color with earth, truffle, cherry blossom and cocoa scents, supple texture with polished, fresh plum and cherry sensations in the finish. Jeff Leve,
Tasted twice at JP Moueix and the Syndicate de Pomerol. The Certan-de-May has a gorgeous bouquet with superb fruit intensity: macerated red cherries, raspberry and wild strawberry, all very pure and exuberant. The palate is full-bodied with svelte tannins, very good depth and cohesion with wonderful build in the mouth towards a structured finish. It does not quite have the persistency or the complexity to rank alongside the top-flight wines in recent vintage, but this is an excellent Pomerol 2011. Tasted April 2012. Neal Martin,
This has guts for the vintage, with good fleshy plum and blackberry fruit melded nicely already with anise and spice cake notes. Shows more weight than length, but that should come. James Molesworth,
Aromas and flavors of dark berries and chocolate follow through to a a full body, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. Well done for the vintage. James Suckling,
100% Merlot. Deep crimson. Chocolate and cherry but fresh too. Very very fine, dry tannins, fresh and minerally on the palate. Completely unshowy but long and just a touch of chocolate coming back on the finish. More depth in the mid palate. Jancis Robinson,
Attracttive red berry fruit expression. Very pure. Palate has agreeable zest and energy. Firm, long grippy finish. Drink 2017-2026.
An impressive effort from this well-situated estate sandwiched between Vieux Chateau Certan, Petrus and La Fleur Petrus, Certan de May’s dense ruby/purple-colored 2011 exhibits a big, spicy, earthy, plum and black-fruited nose, a medium to full-bodied, masculine style, and some noticeable tannins still to be shed. Cellar it for 2-3 years and drink it over the following 12-15. Apr 2014,
