Critic Notes

The second wine, the 2007 Carraudes de Lafite, is nearly equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with tiny dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A sleeper of the vintage, it offers sexy, ripe berry fruit intermixed with hints of cedarwood, forest floor, and underbrush. This plump, corpulent, fruity effort reveals a velvety texture as well as a lush finish. Enjoy it over the next 8-10 years. Wine Advocate.April, 2010

Balanced and very pretty, with refined tannins, medium body and delicious berry, chocolate and light spice. -James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2008

2014: THE F+R PICKS. SMITH-HAUT-LAFITTE
They know what they’re doing at Smith-Haut-Lafitte. This is one of the few properties in Bordeaux that really engages with the end customer, and one that is particularly aware of the commercial realities of what they are making. The Cathiards, owners since 1990, have a clear ambition - to be the best - and they are well on this road. ...

Neal Martin of the Wine Advocate describes it as the “quintessential wine of elegance”, ...

2011 Bordeaux: Great News for Lafite Lovers
When we last tasted at Lafite, we were disappointed with the 2011 vintage as the wine was awkward and surly: blackly fruited and ferociously structured; showing none of the charm for which this chateau is so famous. Two weeks on and Lafite has blossomed into a silky, sweet, polished princess. The wine has softened, showing a nice bit of baby ...

St Julien vs. Pauillac - Tasting in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour
Head of F+R Asia Ross Eva shares his notes from an evening spent sampling some of the very best Bordeaux, against the bright lights of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour...  Working in the wine trade is not without perks.
