Critic Notes
In an excellent vintage for the Château’s Grand Vin, it’s no surprise that the second wine at Angélus is delicious too. The high percentage of Cabernet Franc gives the wine perfume and lift, complementing its polished tannins and fresh, well balanced finish. Apr 2016, www.timatkin.com, Drink: 2020-2028

A racy second wine with blackberry, blueberry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. 50% merlot, 40% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon. Mar 2016, JamesSuckling.com

The 2015 Le Carillon d'Angélus is endowed with tremendous fruit intensity and power, especially for a second wine. A generous dose of Cabernet Franc adds aromatic lift throughout, but the Carillon remains voluptuous, intense and ready to provide plenty of near-term pleasure. The blend is 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Apr 2016, www.Vinous.com

The 2015 Le Carillon d'Angelus is a blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a perfumed, marine-tinged bouquet, the lifted cassis fruit tinged with seaweed. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannin, very well-judged acidity and very harmonious. It is not a Carillon of enormous depth and therefore, it will drink 2-3 years after bottling, but it does have class and would probably show up many other Saint Emilion grand crus. Composed of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Le Carillon d'Angelus sports a medium to deep garnet-purple color and a very spicy nose of cloves, cinnamon and fenugreek over core of warm red fruits and freshly crushed blackberries plus wafts of rose hips and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, very fresh and delicate in the mouth, it offers soft tannins with a savory, slightly chewy finish. Feb 2018, www.robertparker.com

50% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep and purple-tasting somehow. Just a little bit bitter on the end. Apr 2016, www.JancisRobinson.com, Drink: 2024-2033
