Solid red with walnuts, blackberries and currants. Full to medium body and velvety tannins. Polished and exciting. Watch it. Mar 2017, www.jamessuckling.com
An estate that has gone long on extraction in the past, but I'm really enjoying what they have done this year. This is big but very pretty, held back under tension, showing juicy black cherry and touches of chocolate. The soft, chalky tannins are very well placed; you can almost brush through them. This wine impressed me over several tastings. Apr 2017, www.decanter.com, Drink: 2020-2035
The 2016 Cap de Faugeres, is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in 40% one-year-old barrels. It has a tightly wound bouquet with blackberry, undergrowth and pencil-lead aromas—more Left Bank than Right Bank in style. The palate is well balanced with firm tannin, good depth and tension with a spicy, almost Graves-like finish that lingers in the mouth. It is a little austere at the moment, but I appreciate the focus and poise. Apr 2017, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2020-2034
The 2016 Cap de Faugeres (composed of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a medium garnet-purple color and reveals notions of warm plums, blackberry pie and black raspberries with touches of pencil shavings and sauteed herbs. Medium-bodied with a velvety texture and good core of black fruits, it finishes on a long-lasting earthy note. Nov 2018, www.robertparker.com
Dark crimson. Clean and fresh on the nose. Very direct. Chewy finish. Slight lack of juice and fruit in the middle. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2021-2030
Super-ripe red cherry, tobacco, spice and French oak are front and center in the 2016 Cap de Faugères, which is in an especially ripe, sweet style, even within the context of the vintage. The oak needs time to fully integrate. Even so, this is an attractive wine that will please readers who appreciate the more flamboyant side of Bordeaux. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com
