Delicious plum sauce and warm raspberry confiture flavors pump forth, while melted licorice and wood spice notes fill in. Juicy finish Apr 2017, James Molesworth,
Very fine and polished red with blackberry and blueberry character. Plenty of chocolate flavors. Medium-bodied, fresh and clean. Mar 2017,
The 2016 Cantelys is quite pretty in this vintage. Plump, juicy and giving, it is an ideal wine for drinking over the next decade or so. Succulent red cherry, raspberry, plum, wildflowers and spices lead into the racy, voluptuous finish. There is much to like here. Apr 2017,
From the Smith Haut Lafitte stable, this is a sleek, knitted-in, fairly subdued Cantelys. It has ripe plum fruits and some chalky tannins on the finish; lots of possibility for enjoyable, succulent, medium term drinking, although it's not as fleshy as last year. It has suffered a touch from frost and hail which affected yields but not quality. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2025-2040
The 2016 Cantelys is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. This comes from gravel soils that stressed the vines here and that showed in the barrel sample. It has a pleasant and fresh bouquet of brambly black fruit, fresh mint and a touch of bay leaf that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a little chewiness on the entry, perhaps a touch more muscular than I expected, with an austere and slightly distant finish. I would be seeking a little more finesse once this is in bottle, and for me, I think this is more suitable for early drinking. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2019-2025
