This has always been one of the great wines of the vintage and one of the greatest ever produced at this estate. Seriously dark ruby in color, with blackberry, earth and fresh floral aromas. Full-bodied, with full silky tannins and thick, ripe fruit. Still needs time.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2000. – James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1998
An outstanding, dark ruby/purple-hued effort with little lightening at the edge, the 1982 Canon exhibits plenty of crushed rock, red and black currant, and dusty, earthy, loamy notes. It is a full-bodied, powerful, slightly austere St.-Emilion with moderately high tannins. Believe it or not, this 1982 is not yet fully mature. It should drink well for another 10-15 years. Release price: ($125.00/case) Wine Advocate.June, 2009
Soft and appealing with real mineral notes. Very fruity and ready. Gentle, beguiling texture. Drink now!www.jancisrobinson.com, 15 Jul 2002
Tasted a the Chateau Canon vertical, the 1982 Canon is clearly fully mature on the nose, so much so that I have a sneaking suspicion that it may have passed its peak. But there is still plenty to savor here with leather, fresh prune and game, perhaps just a little volatility but not too much. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy on the entry with good acidity, sweeter and more candied than the 1989 Canon. It offers black cherries, raspberry coulis, leather, sage and tobacco, coalescing nicely towards the finish that lingers. There is a game-like and feral aspect to this 1982 these days, though it will continue to give pleasure over the next decade. Tasted October 2015. Mar 2017, www.robertparker.com
