Biondi-Santi’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is an intriguing wine. Silky, refined tannins frame a core of perfumed dark red fruits as this compact, linear Brunello opens up in the glass. This medium-bodied Brunello is in need of serious bottle age, but the potential seems for the wine to develop nicely over the coming years. The estate’s 2004 is not a blockbuster, but rather a delicate, ethereal style of Brunello. It is also one of the finer wines made from this part of Montalcino in 2004. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. Jun 2009, www.robertparker.com

Tuscany Wine Journal, Day Three: Biondi Santi
Introducing the latest installment of FINE+RARE buyer Jessica Bryans’ Tuscany Wine Journal, documenting her whistle-stop tour of all the region has to offer. Day One · Day Two** ** Day Three: Meeting the Godfather of Brunello Another great day, tasting great Brunelllo. F+R Tuscany Report: Montalcino
Brunello is without doubt one of Italy’s most important wines; indeed some have argued that it is Italy’s greatest (although we would probably give that crown to Barolo). Super Tuscan's aside, Brunello is the Italian wine that will most likely appeal to Bordeaux lovers, those that find Barolo’s acidity a little too much, and the very best Brunellos – and ...

Brunello di Montalcino: F+R report
Part of what we do at FINE+RARE is try, wherever possible, to get as close to source as we can. Ideally we deal direct with the winemakers themselves.  Following the success of the brilliant 2010 vintage, our buying team have just returned from Montalcino.  Jessica Bryans recounts the trip: It is hard to believe that Brunello is such a new ...

Brunello di Montalcino – The Young Minds of Montalcino
Trying to reach Sangiovese’s true potential in Montalcino Sangiovese, like Pinot Noir, is very much susceptible to over-cropping and in recent years has been used and abused by many winemakers to the detriment of its true varietal profile. Sangiovese has the potential to produce wines with the same textural brilliance as some of the world’s best Pinot Noir; it can ...

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Tasting
62 samples of 2010 Brunello di Montalcino In late February, just after the Benvenuti Brunello tastings in Montalcino, we held what was probably the most comprehensive tasting of 2010 Brunello di Montalcino in the UK.  These wines have proved immensely popular since their release and we had a golden chance to see what the fuss is all about. In ...
