This has a lot going on in the bottle with currants, sweet tobacco and berry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins. A bit firm but it's there. Much better than from barrel. Best after 2009. 13,330 cases made. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2005
Notes of damp earth, composty, leafy vegetation and sweet currants, plums, and cherries in addition to some licorice jump from the glass of this evolved, deep ruby-colored wine that shows medium body, excellent concentration, an elegant but pure style, and nice texture and length. Anticipated maturity: now-2016. Wine Advocate.April, 2005
Tasted at the Brane-Cantenac vertical at the chateau, the 2002 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 6% Cabernet France matured in 70% new French oak. It is clean and fresh on the nose: blackberry, tobacco and gravel notes emerging nicely from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple blackberry and strawberry fruit, that tincture of tobacco coming through towards the conservative, but fresh finish. The 2002 is maturing in commendable fashion and whilst it will not soar towards the heavens, it should continue to drink well for several years. Tasted April 2015. Dec 2016,
Light, tart palate and a rather austere nose. Just not ripe enough? Too green. Lime sherbet, 13 Oct 2009
